SOME special guests turned up at St Ita’s and St Joseph’s School in Balloonagh on Friday for their annual graduation ceremony.
Inter-county GAA stars, Kieran Donaghy and Darran O’Sullivan were on hand to make presentations to graduating pupils at the school who received FETAC qualifications and Leaving Certificate awards in particular subjects.
Fr Patsy Lynch – who received a presentation from the school to mark his 40th year as a priest – said Mass before five students received their certificates in front of fellow students and their families. The award recipients were Lydia Keane, Kevin Looney, Catherine Moriarty, Carrie Ann O’Connor and Dale O’Sullivan.
Lydia Keane and Dale O’Sullivan also received the Spirit of Sports awards.
“The Spirit of Sports awards are for students who have shown exceptional support of others,” said Principal Grace Sheehan. “They may not have achieved first place, but over the years they have taken time out to always include others, to always be a team player. These are national awards given to particular students in schools around the country,” explained Ms Sheehan.
After the ceremony, there were refreshments for students and staff.
