Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí’s New Building Project Advances To Next Stage

KERRY Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) has received approval from the Department of Education and Skills to progress the new school building for Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí to the next stage.

Following the submission of a detailed Stage 1 Report by the Design Team the Department has approved the Project to progress to Stage 2.

The Stage 1 submission addressed the development of an initial concept and design for the school including layout, traffic management etc.

In addition, this phase included a full site survey assessing ground conditions, existing services, vegetation etc.

The final stage 1 report as submitted summarised the design, cost and viability of the entire project. Approval to progress to Stage 2 represents significant advancement project by the Design Team which began its work in April 2017, following their appointment.

The new school which is being delivered under the devolved funding model, will provide a state of the art accommodation for staff and students. The school will be located between Hawley Park and University Hospital Kerry and will include the following:

• over 20 general purpose classrooms

• Specialists room including multimedia, music, design and communications graphics etc.

• science laboratories

• arts rooms

• home economics room

• construction studies, engineering and technology rooms

• A school library, general purpose areas, students dining area, staff room etc. In addition the new school building project will include a full size PE hall
