AROUND 12o students at Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí took their work home with them, so to speak, when they took part in the #Gaeilge24 event yesterday.
The students spoke Irish from 9am on Tuesday to 9am on Wednesday as part of the Conradh Na Gaeilge organised challenge as teacher Máire Ní Laocha explained.
“Obviously, they speak Irish during the school hours, but when they head down town at lunchtime and at home this evening they will continue to speak it. We’re having a ceilí this afternoon too and it’s all about making Irish fun outside the classroom. We’re also launching the Ceol 2018 where every student receives a CD with modern songs translated into Irish,” said Máire.
The students had sponsorship cards for #Gaeilge24 collecting €10 each at least and that money will be sent back to Conradh Na Gaeilge to put on further activities and events to promote the Irish language.
