IT will be a very special day for one Tralee school on Thursday as they welcome President Michael D Higgins through their doors.
The President and his wife Sabina will honour Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn with a visit as part of his duties in the continuing commemorations of the Easter Rising 1916.
Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, the first Gaelscoil to open outside of the Dublin area, is named after Sir Roger Casement. It is the only school that the President will visit on his trip to Kerry making it a huge honour for the staff and pupils there.
After a Céad Míle Fáilte reception in Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, the State ceremony will begin at the school on Killeen Road, and the army and motorcade will lead the President to the State commemoration at Banna beach, where he will lay a wreath in honour of Roger Casement.
