Gardaí Begin Murder Investigation After Assault Victim’s Death

Gardai in Tralee have begun a murder investigation in relation to the death of a man in Tralee during the week.

GARDAÍ in Tralee investigating the serious assault of a man, 24 years, have begun a murder investigation following a post mortem which was carried out today, Saturday October 3 at Kerry General Hospital.

The results of the post mortem are not been disclosed for operational reasons.

The assault occurred at Killeen Woods, Tralee on Wednesday, September 30 shortly after 10.30pm. Gardaí confirmed that the injured male died last night at Kerry General Hospital.

The deceased, Dmitry Hrynkevich, aged 24, moved with his family from Russia to Ireland several years ago and lived on the outskirts of Killarney.

He was a former student at St Brendan’s College and was well known in Killarney and beyond given his 7’2” frame.

Two men, aged in their 20’s and 30’s arrested in connection with this investigation and detained at Tralee and Killarney Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 have both been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigations are ongoing and investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Killeen Woods at the time of the incident to contact them.
