Gardaí Investigate Hit And Run Incident Near Abbeydorney

A silver Golf GTI like the one involved in the hit and run incident near Abbeydorney on Thursday.

GARDAI in Tralee are asking for the public’s assistance regarding a hit and run incident near Abbeydorney on Thursday.

 

At approximately 11:40hrs, a vehicle which was travelling from Tralee towards Abbeydorney collided with the wall of a residence at Drumcunnig.

The driver turned the vehicle around and fled the scene back towards Tralee.

From the account of the owner of the residence, and from enquiries carried out, the vehicle has been confirmed to be a silver Volkswagen Golf GTI, between 1998 – 2004.

The bumper of the vehicle was left at the scene, however the driver picked up the front registration plate before fleeing.

The location of the incident on the Tralee-Abbeydorney road on Thursday.

The driver was reported to have been in his late teens, with short tight blonde hair, thin, pale complexion and wearing a red jacket with white stripes.

There was considerable damage done to the wall of the residence. It is believed the driver was attempting to evade a Garda checkpoint which was located further up the road from the collision.

Gardaí are looking for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the collision or the vehicle fleeing the scene.

Anyone who has observed a silver VW Golf GTI with matching damage, if any crash repair companies encountered such a vehicle, are asked to help with the investigation by calling Tralee Garda Station on 066-7102300.
