GARDAI have issued an appeal on RTE’s Crimecall programme tonight, after a sexual assault in Tralee  last year.

Back August 2016, a woman was walking home in the Monavalley area at about 3am when a light-coloured metallic three-door Fiat Punto Hatchback pulled up alongside her.

The driver tried to speak to her  but she ignored him and kept walking. The Fiat Punto drove off and pulled into Monalee Road. It then came out and rejoined the main road following the woman to the Shanakill Estate.

The car stopped in a car park area in the estate. The woman was making her way on the footpath and passed a man. The man turned and followed her. He grabbed her and sexually assaulted her.

Ten minutes later the Fiat Punto left the car park and drove off towards town. Detective John Brennan, appearing on the Crimecall programme, said it was a traumatising experience for the woman, but she was lucky to escape and was able to call for help near her own home and raised the alarm.

The Fiat Punto is a 00 to 04 model described as being in immaculate condition. The woman’s attacker is described as being in his mid to late 20s, athletic build between 5′ 10″ to 6 ft in height, wearing a short sleeved  red chequered shirt.
