The two boys, aged 10 and 12, were on their way home from a shop near Loughanes, Lisselton, at about 11.15am, when a male motorist stopped and asked the boys if they wanted a lift home.

The boys said no, but they still had about a mile and a half walk home and in that time the motorist repeatedly passed them.

Gardaí think the car may have been a silver Toyota with a registration either 02 or 05. The male is described as being aged between 30 and 40, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a red check shirt.

Gardaí are treating the incident very seriously and are following a number of lines of enquiry.

The Gardaí are also advising parents to be vigilant with their children in telling them of the dangers out there.
