GARDAI responded to an incident at a private dwelling in the Kilgarvan area at around noon today.
A man, aged in his 50s, had barricaded himself into a house and it was confirmed that he had access to firearms and ammunition. No other person was in the dwelling during the barricade.
An Garda Síochána protocols for a barricade incident were implemented. At approximately 3pm, the barricade incident was resolved peacefully.
No persons were injured during this operation and a shotgun, rifle and ammunition has been safely secured at the scene. The man has been arrested and is currently detained under the Mental Health Act.
