Gardaí To Clampdown On Illegal Parking Outside Primary Schools

GARDAI are asking parents to park responsibly when dropping their children to school and say they will be clamping down on illegal behaviour at Tralee schools.

Speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ show on Monday, Garda Cathy Murphy said they regularly receive complaints about parents parking on double yellow lines and on junctions to drop off and collect their children.

“Most of the schools in Tralee are in built up areas and traffic problems are going to be unavoidable, but the problem is that some people are acting illegally and getting as close to the gate as they can. They don’t care if it’s on a double yellow line or on a junction or a corner. It’s causing huge problems. There are children running across the road in front of cars because their parents are leaving them off at the other side,” said Garda Murphy.

She asked parents to leave those extra minutes so that they’re not in a hurry and can drop their children off safely.

Garda Murphy said that gardaí would be present at some schools in the Tralee area in the morning and afternoons where possible and they will be clamping down on illegal parking. She said the current situation is an accident waiting to happen and something has to change before someone is knocked down.

Garda clamping down on illegal behaviour at Tralee schools.

I have noticed an Garda Síochána, it’s nice to see them out in force making the necessary intervention.

However, the dangerous drivers are still doing illegal U-turns at the entrance of Oakview from Brewery road, just out of eye sight of an Garda Síochána up the road.

Great job, I like to see an Garda Síochána being proactive on public order matters.

    Zero tolerance policing works.
