garda_1GARDAÍ are once again warning the public about bogus callers going door to door attempting to con people out of money.

The warning comes after an elderly man recently handed over a couple of hundred euro to man claiming to be from the ESB. A well-dressed male called to the the man, who is living on his own in Lyrecrompane, and said he was collecting money for a bill owed.

Gardaí are asking the public to be vigilant and fully check out the credentials of anyone calling to their doors. They say there have been regular incidences of bogus callers claiming to be from Irish Water, Kerry County Council or the ESB.

People should call the relevant companies or authorities they claim to represent and let the gardaí know if their credentials don’t check out.
