A TRALEE man raised thousands of euro for two great causes after a marathon swim a couple of months ago.

Ger McDonnell from Clogherbrien swam from Locke’s Beach in Fenit to Mucklough Rock and back, a distance of 18km, on September 14 with funds raised going to Tralee Mens Shed and Fenit RNLI.

“I gave myself a project as I was not working during the first lockdown. I did a bit of training when I could manage it,” said Ger.

“I decided I would raise funds for charities whose income has been curtailed due to COVID restrictions. I picked the Men’s Shed because they are just around the corner from where I live and my father Florrie was one of the founding members of Tralee Bay Swimming Club, so I chose Fenit RNLI as it’s always been close to my heart.”

Ger raised €4,600 in all and presented the cheque for €2,300 to Tralee Mens Shed on Tuesday. He will present Fenit RNLI with the same amount in a couple of weeks.
