OK, so we still have Christmas and all that food and fun to look forward to, but it’s worth looking a little further ahead to when we’re all partied out.

January is a time for a new start and this is a perfect way to get active and healthy for the body and mind.

The 31 day January Challenge for#positivementalhealth is once again taking place and is being promoted by local people Colin ‘Poshey’ Aherne and Caroline Corkery in aid of three great causes.

Bumbleance and Down Syndrome Kerry will benefit from fund-raising while €1,000 is being donated to Action For Amber, to help with little Amber O’Connor’s fight against Cancer. She was present at the launch of the challenge at the Manor West Hotel on Sunday.

Her dad, Danny, said Amber underwent an operation recently and was doing well. Amber was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Metastatic Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), back in September.

Each day in January for 31 days people can sign up to do an activity a day, whether it be  walking, running, cycling, yoga, fitness or whatever, once you get active for 30 minutes a day. Each day you complete you donate €1.

Online registration is open now so it’s a great way to commit to making that change in January and helping out fantastic causes. In fact over €3,500 has been raised so far! Click here to take part.
