THIS Thursday a night of song music and dance will take place in Na Gaeil clubhouse with all proceeds going towards a local initiative called Inspired.

The rambling house night will feature local traditional musicians and it all gets underway at 9pm.

This is a free event with the hope that people will spare a few bob and donate to a good cause.

“These fundraising events are hugely important because at the moment we don’t have charitable recognition, so everything we are doing at the moment is totally reliant on the funds we raise ourselves,” said Yvonne O’Brien of Inspired.

Inspired is a community-based project that has been running in town since the end of September. Their whole aim is to look at people’s ability rather than their disability.

“We’re focused on young people coming to us, becoming active citizens and contributing to the local community,” said Yvonne.

“They see their siblings heading off to college and leading independent lifestyles, so they need to know they are capable as well,” she said.

Inspired have recently been rolling out courses, with four currently running from September to December. The shop in the Square has two functions; it works as a business and a centre for training and a place that can showcase items participants have made.

“So far it has been going really well, the people who are in the Square are visible to the public, so further down the line this could lead to work experience and the road to full time employment,” said Yvonne.

So get down to Na Gaeil this Thursday and do what you can to support this great initiative.
