BLOOMSDAY was celebrated in earnest last Sunday with a special event in town.

This is a commemoration and celebration of the life of Irish writer James Joyce, observed primarily in Dublin on June 16, the day his novel Ulysses takes place in 1904, and named after its protagonist Leopold Bloom.

It proved a big success thanks to Frank Houlihan of Hybreasal Productions with a large group of people dressing up in turn of the (last) century dress.

It saw readings of Ulysses in various locations, starting with Maddens creative hub on Milk Market Lane where kidneys and Denny’s sausages were served with homemade bread and butter.

The group then headed An Sheeben on Rock Street for another reading. Then  is was on to the town park and it finished up in the Ballymac Bar for burgundy wine and gorgonzola sandwiches. A fantastic turnout for the inaugural Tralee event and more is sure to come next year.
