Gold And Silver IMRO Awards For Radio Kerry Entries

RADIO Kerry won Gold and Two Silver awards at the 2019 National Radio Awards last night.

They had six nominations at the awards which took place at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny, with ‘Cluas Chiarraí’ from Eoghain Fitzgerald and his students on the Kerry College radio broadcasting course, taking Gold in the Short Feature Category.

The series, about the sounds and soundscapes of County Kerry, was inspired by students Barry O’Donnell and Dara O’Cinneide – who are both visually impaired and who successfully completed the course this year.

The news team received a Silver Award in the News Story category for ‘When Mistakes Cost Lives’, covering the scan scandal at UHK.

Tim Moynihan also received a Silver Award for Sports Broadcaster of the Year (Local) while the station’s Chief Executive, Paul Byrne, was inducted into the IMRO Radio Awards Hall of Fame after 39 years working in the radio industry.

The annual awards, sponsored by IMRO, recognise the best in Irish radio and include local, national and regional stations in the 32 counties.
