GRADAM Gnó Chiarraí is now into its second year in 2019, commencing with a photo-shoot in Áras an Chontae. The categories have changed this year to give new businesses an opportunity to take part in the awards while allowing for greater development in those areas of business where use of Irish can be developed.

Also, a new category has been added that opens the door to the public and state sector to take part in the awards i.e. to identify the public counter/office that best uses Irish in Kerry.

All types of business, be they large or small, starting out or well established, are more than welcome to take part in Gradam Gnó Chiarraí 2019.

Businesses have until the 31 May 2019 to register for this year’s awards and can do so by filling in the registration form available at the back of information leaflet or by sending their details on-line to gaeilge@ciarrai.ie

Registered businesses will have the summer to develop their Irish language services with the help of Glór na nGael and the Foras na Gaeilge scheme ‘Gnó means Business’.

After the summer, businesses will be required to complete a ‘self-assessment form’ and the adjudicators will meet those successful applicants that make the short-list. Gradam Gnó Chiarraí 2019 will be announced in November with a presentation of the awards of a specially commissioned Slate Plaque and an advertising/monetary package worth €500 to the winners.

This year’s categories are – Signage, Marketing, Customer Service, Kerry Image, Best new entry and the Public Sector Counter. The award sponsors for the best use of Irish in 2019 are Radio Kerry, Kerry’s Eye, Oifig Fiontair Áitiúil Chiarraí, Údarás an Gaeltachta, The Kerryman agus Foras na Gaeilge.

Kerry County Council’s Oifig na Gaeilge will sponsor the commissioned slate plaques while Glór na nGael take care of the adjuration.
