Travelling Tea Party

THE ‘Travelling Tea-Party’ taking place this weekend, is the first in a series of artist-led, socially-engaged events by artist Tricia O’Connor.

The aim of this series of tea-parties is to promote dialogue around the Repeal of the 8th Amendment and Abortion Rights in Ireland. Both Pro-Life and Pro-Choice views are welcome.

The first tea-party will be this Saturday between 3:30pm and 5pm in Collis Sandes House, Killeen.

In what is a novel way of recording the meetings, at each tea-party extracts from what has been discussed will be printed onto the inside of a teacup.

It is hoped this visual cue will give the impression that you are eavesdropping on a previous conversation that was had within the group.

By recording the conversations on teacups, Tricia will begin to create an archive of the lived experience of men and women who have been affected by issues surrounding Abortion Rights In Ireland.

Abortion rights campaigners in Ireland are currently gathering signatures to call for a referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment to the constitution of Ireland.

Speaking as a Pro-Life person against legalising abortion.

Most Pro-Life citizens recognise the need under certain restricted circumstances for controlled abortion, which would vary between Pro-Life citizens.

For me the circumstances necessary to legitimise an abortion would be primarily medical issues concerning the mother or child.

As a Pro-Life citizen the concern for me of even introducing abortion even in restricted circumstances as described as above is the liberal left pro abortion would view the conservative act of compromise as a step to unrestricted abortion.

I have hear the liberal left lobbying, campaigning and actively stating that because conservative Irish citizens like myself voted positively in regard to Gay marriage that therefore abortion is more lightly or only a matter of time!
Well, think again! Conservatives vote with a social conscience on each unique piece of legislation and both issues are separate and worlds apart.
