CAST members from the Group Theatre Tralee are close to staging a work they’ve  been rehearsing for a few months now.

‘The Camel’s Back’ will be performed next week at the Ivy Leaf Theatre in Castleisland from Friday to Sunday night before travelling to Listowel and finally Abbeydorney.

The Group has been rehearsing since the end of October and they’re looking forward to treading the boards according to the director.

“The play was written in 1935  by Arnold Helsby, but I’ve adapted it to be set in Ireland,” said director/actor Sonia Elston, speaking before rehearsals on Thursday night in The Mall Tavern.

“Even though it was written back then it’s not that dated. It’s set on a farm where the farmer has died and the sister has come to manage the farm…and she’s awful,” said Sonia, who lives in Ardfert.

“It’s a comedy so we’ve had great fun doing the rehearsals and I hope the audience will enjoy it as much as we will,” said Sonia, who thanked The Mall Tavern for giving them the space to rehearse.

• ‘The Camel’s Back’ will be performed in the Ivy Leaf from next Friday to Sunday; in St John’s Arts Centre Listowel on March 5/6 and in Abbeydorney Community Centre on Friday March 13. All performances start at 8pm. Tickets €10 (€8 concession).
