AS dust began to settle on the Tralee winning five-in-row Tidy Town gold medals, community groups and council members were in jubilant spirits on Tuesday afternoon as they gathered for a photo.

“We are very proud,” said Frank Hartnett of Kerry County Council at the Clashlehane Roundabout at the entrance to town. “Our goal at the start of the year was to retain the gold and increase our marks and we have increased that on last time by seven points. We’re delighted with that,” said Frank.

In order to retain its gold medal status, Tralee has maintained and indeed improved on the high standards they set each year to retain the accolade and that is visible by improvements around town.

The town achieved 312 points this year, up seven on 2015’s figure of 305.

“It has been a massive team effort between volunteer groups the Tidy Tralee Together, Team Bramble, Towards a Better Tralee and our own staff at Kerry County Council who have done tremendous work. It’s one thing to live in the town, but when you come in with a fresh pair of eyes like the adjudicator did, we thought it was a very positive report.

“The town does look great and long may it continue. We look forward to achieving gold again next year and for our points to increase. You have to be improving all the time and that is reflected in the marks.”
