TRALEE Harriers collected two awards last Saturday at the Munster Athletics Star Awards held in Clonmel last Saturday.
Aoibheann O’Brien of Tralee Harriers AC won the Munster Junior Indoor & Track and Field female athlete of the year for 2016 while the club itself was honoured with The Munster Indoor Junior and Senior Club of the year.
2016 turned out to be a fantastic year for Aoibheann. In one weekend Aoibheann left Nenagh with three Golds in the U19 age group, wining the 60m, Long Jump and the Triple Jump.
She took silvers in the Junior Triple Jumps and Senior Long Jump. In Cork at the Track and Field championships she took double silver in the U19 Long Jump and 100m.

After Munsters, Aoibheann was invited to attend the Cork City International Sports where she took part in the Long Jump finishing in 6th in a very competitive International field.
At National Level, Aoibheann took three Golds over two different categories. At Junior Level she jumped her way to winning the Indoor Triple Jump and Track and Field Long Jump, and also took the U19 Track and Field Long Jump. Silver medal came in the Indoor U19 Long Jump and a Bronze in the Indoor Junior Long Jump.
Aoibheann is a determined athlete and balances her training, and competitions while studying for her Leaving Cert.
Aoibheann brought with her, her father Conor and mother Margaret O’Brien, the proud parents of this superstar.
While at the function Margaret collected a Munster Star Award for Tralee Harriers Athletic Club. Tralee Harriers AC was honoured with The Munster Indoor Junior and Senior Club of the year.
This accolade is the achievements of a group of athletes who have given of themselves last year and performed above and beyond what was asked of them.
Aoibheann O’Brien, Aoife O’Carroll, Rachel Bowler and Nikolia O Connor attended every event that was possible to attend and taking away top honours on many an occasion.
