Here’s How Many New Cars Were Sold In Kerry Last Year

NEW car sales increased in Kerry last year compared to 2020, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), with December sales up by 800%.

There were 18 new car registrations in the county in December 2021 compared to just two in the same month in 2020.

Overall last year there were 2,223 new car sales in Kerry, while in 2020 there were 1,934 in the same period, an increase of 15%. Nationally, new car registrations were up 18.80% with 104,563 sold compared to 88,325 in 2020.

Toyota was the most popular make of car in Kerry with 299 units sold, with the rest of the Top 5 made up of Hyundai (284), Volkswagen (25o) and Ford (232) and KIA (230) .

The Hyundai Tucson was the most popular model sold this year on 150 units, with Kia Sportage (101), Toyota Corolla (90), Ford Focus (79) and Toyota C-HR (71) making up the top five.

Diesel cars are the most popular engine type with 863 units with 662 petrol. Next is 358 petrol/electric hybrid vehicles sold, a rise of over 59% on 2020, 111 Electric vehicles (+91%); 109 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+153%);  109 diesel electric (+626%);  nine petrol/gas and two Diesel/Plug-In Electric Hybrid.
