SPA Fenit Community Council will again celebrate Heritage weekend at the Forge in Churchill today and tomorrow.

The annual event is always popular with a broad appeal for young and old through its varied programme of events and admission is free.

On Saturday, August 20th, a Classic Car Run will depart the Forge in Churchill at 6.30 pm travelling via Ardfert to Ballyheigue and returning again to the Forge.  All classic and road-legal rally cars are welcome with registration taking place at 6pm.

The Tractor run is scheduled for Sunday. Registration will take place at the car park in the GAA grounds in Churchill commencing at 12 noon.

A variety of makes and models will leave the parking lot at 12.15 pm travelling in convoy around the parish and will return to the Forge at 2pm.

The organisers are delighted to be associated this year with the Coronary Care Unit in University Hospital Kerry.

This unit has four intensive care beds for adults and children and is responsible for eight cardiac monitors. The Coronary Care nurses are highly qualified and deliver a gold standard holistic       service with passion and empathy.

To assist the team in dealing with the many challenges presented organisers ask you for your support which will be used for the care and comfort of the patients and for staff education in Kerry.

Coronary Care volunteers have arranged collection points along the route of the car and tractor runs and they would ask you to contribute generously to this very worthy cause.

The Children’s Tractor Fun Run was a most popular event and is again part of the programme this year, while the Dog Show is a great attraction.

A metal works display by the Blacksmith should be of particular interest for the younger generation as he demonstrates skills from times past.

Ancient hand tools, morse code equipment and a range of crafts will be on display and a butter making demonstration is sure to generate much interest.

Other areas of interest include a thatcher at work and a special craftsman will explain how sugan chairs are made.
