A TRALEE owned and based sports equipment company is taking the next step in their evolution by opening their first ever store in Ivy Terrace this week.

Radar Sports, have been in business now for eight years. The company was the brainchild  of Una O’Mahony who, up until now, operated the business out of her house in Ballyard with her husband Donagh.

Currently, Radar supply equipment to a number of sports clubs in Kerry, including kits for Tralee, Dingle and Listowel rugby clubs and gear for the Born To Run running club.

“The idea with the store is to work with existing clubs,” said Una O’Mahony.

“Let’s say if someone wants to buy the Tralee Rugby Club gear, they can come here and get everything they need. Same with the swimming and running clubs as well. We’re trying to help the clubs to help themselves, we see it as a partnership really,” said Una.

Radar have also signed up Irish Olympic gymnast, Kieran Behan, who was at London in 2012, to wear the brand at the next Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“We hope to get Kieran down to spend a day in Tralee, give the local gymnastics club a training session and come here to the shop,” said Una.

Materials for the equipment are sourced from all over the world, but people are employed in Tralee to provide printing and embroidery on the gear.

“Unfortunately we can’t manufacture clothing in Ireland anymore, but what we can do is bring clothing from overseas and get local companies to do the branding in order to enhance the product,” said Una.

Radar Sports expect to open their doors for the first time at Ivy Terrace this Friday.
