The new walkway from the car park at the Lock Gates to Cockleshell has been a huge success.

THE Council is to look into extending the walkway from Cockleshell beach to the Spa.

A tarmacadamed walkway was recently constructed linking the car park at the Lock Gates to Cockleshell and it has been a huge success over the summer.

At the Tralee Municipal District meeting of Kerry County Council on Monday, Cllr Terry O’Brien had a motion that the Council would immediately look to continuing the walk from Cockleshell over to the Spa.

In reply, the Council said it is supportive of this proposal, however, due to the significance of this phase of works, there is a requirement to meet the requirements of Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regs 2001.

There will also be a requirement to negotiate with landowners to facilitate this future development. The Council is presently looking to assign resources to progress this project to the point of being suitable for a future funding application.

I’ve stopped using the widened walkway as it’s full of manic cyclists and it’s no longer safe for walking.
