THE people of Tralee showed up in their hundreds in The Square this afternoon to pay tribute to Ashling Murphy, the 23 year old woman who was murdered while out running by the canal in Tullamore on Wednesday.
The vigil was organised by Phil Horgan from Shanakill who spoke out against violence towards women.
Mr Horgan said the Government and the courts need to act now when it comes to harsher sentences for men convicted of physically and sexually assaulting women.

“You need to write to your TDs, to the Government and say enough is enough. We won’t stand for it anymore, we want our women and children protected,” he said.
He also said men need to talk to each other about their attitudes towards women and they need to do better.
A moment’s silence was held in Ashling’s memory and many people placed candles on the plinth in the Square in tribute to her.

God help the grieving family of Ashling Murphy as her killing has been politicising by various groups with their own agendas.
This terrible crime reflects the way Irish society has been transformed by the politicians. I feel that the Garda by grabbing an unfortunate Romanian national by mistake suggests that this crime may have been committed by someone of non Irish extraction.
I feel it is terrible to hear the feminazi’s on the national airways their male bashing and targeting our culture for this? Nonsense.
Rest in piece Ashling Murphy.
