THE Institute of Technology Tralee has released a statement about an incident involving a female student near the Fairies Cross area on Monday afternoon.
Reports of an incident spread quickly on Facebook on Monday evening, stating a woman – walking from Applegreen at Fairies Cross in the direction of town – had been the victim of an attempted abduction in a car involving a number of men believed to be foreign nationals.

The statement from the ITT reads: “The Institute of Technology Tralee has been made aware of an alleged incident involving a student on last Monday evening. In the interest of student welfare and safety, Institute management have liaised with both the student involved and An Garda Síochána in line with Institute protocol.”
“The Institute has been advised by An Garda Síochána that an incident is being investigated but it is not being treated as an attempted abduction. Student safety is of paramount importance to the Institute and the Institute would remind students to be vigilant regarding their safety at all times.”
