THE people at the Inspired Project have decided to get involved with the Tidy Towns effort this year and a special ceremony was held in Páirc An Phiarsaigh on Monday to kick off their efforts.

Members of the Inspired group, Team Bramble, Tralee Chamber Alliance, Mayor Jim Finucane and well wishers watched a new crabapple tree being planted by members of the group at the Park.

“We wanted to contribute something to the local community,” said Yvonne O’Brien, a volunteer Inspired, which is a Community project that aims to develop the employment, education and personal development skills of adults with intellectual disabilities.

“It was Earth  Week a few weeks ago and the people taking part in the Inspired Project do a life skills class at the centre based at The Square. They said they’d like to do something for the local community after the amount of support they’ve received,” she said.

Yvonne explained that they came up with the idea of planting a tree so they contacted Gillian Wharton Slattery of the Tidy Towns group, Team Bramble, and she suggested a crabapple tree, because one had been cut down recently near the Ashe Memorial Hall.

Towards A Better Tralee sponsored the tree and it was planted on Monday morning at the Park. The people from the Inspired project will take care of the tree and they’ll be a plaque erected saying the tree was donated by the Inspired group.

“We’ve also asked Frank Hartnett can we take over the flower boxes in the Square for the summer,” said Yvonne.

Gillian Wharton Slattery said she’s looking forward to working with Inspired during the next few months.

“We’ll be helping them with their work in the Square, getting them started. Team Bramble are trying to get more people in the community involved and to take on projects. We’re looking forward to working with the wonderful people from Inspired,” said Gillian.

Team Bramble meet up twice a week for clean-ups. See their Facebook page here for more details.
