TIME to limber up those dodgy knees and take the boots out of the attic; Inter-firm soccer is back in Tralee!

The 7 a side soccer blitz in aid of local cancer charities, will take place next month and will take place in various venues around town, with the finals to be played at the iconic Low Field.

There will be over 35s and under 35s tournaments on Saturday, October 8, which will bring back memories of the glory days of the tournaments which ran during the summer, up until the late 90s.

Kerry GAA senior team boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice was there to lend his support at a photo to help promote the event at the Low Field on Monday evening. It’s expected there might be one or two familiar Kerry GAA stars of the past taking to the pitch come the day of the blitz.

“We particularly welcome participants from residents groups, estates, offices and factories so that the community spirit of the old inter-firm can be recreated,” said PRO for the event, Simon McCarthy.

One of the organisers, Cllr Pa Daly said; “We would be delighted if we could revive the old inter-firm which drew great crowds in the Low Field from the 1960s to the late 1990s and if we make a few quid for a good cause it will be a bonus.”

It’s 7-a-side matches with panels of 10 and the entry fee is €100 per team which will be donated to local cancer charities. Any teams interested can contact Eoin Kelliher 087 2992392 or Karl Keohane 086 1004263. More details on the event will be revealed in due course.
