IT Tralee Camogie team will travel to Mallow GAA Complex this Saturday to play at the 2019 Ashbourne Cup weekend.

IT Tralee will compete for the Fr. Meaghair Cup when they play favourites Athlone IT in the semi-final. This game will take place at 11am.

The Fr. Meaghair Cup this year had 5 teams take part with every team playing each other.

IT Tralee then went on to record 2 good victories over GMIT and Trinity College Dublin before suffering a heavy defeat to semi-final opponents Athlone IT.

In the end Athlone IT finished top of the group on maximum points (12) while St. Marys Belfast, Trinity College Dublin and IT Tralee all finished on 6 points with scoring difference meaning the Tralee girls would finish 4th.

IT Tralee come in to the semi-final as underdogs as Athlone IT were the pre-competition favourites and have since gone on to prove why by coming through the group undefeated. However, IT Tralee will still feel that they can cause as shock as they were down a number of players when the teams last met.

IT Tralee are managed by former Kerry Camogie manager Stephen Goggin and he is assisted by Danny Guerin.

Preparation up to now has been good with big numbers attending both trainings and games.

IT Tralee can call on Kerry Senior players Caoimhe Shanahan, Norette Casey, Katelynn O’ Connor, Aoife O’ Connor and Kate Buckley aswell as Offaly Senior and team captain Deirdre Cashen. Clare Senior duo Aoife Power and Shauna Canny will also be players to look out for on Saturday.

The winner of this game will go straight to the final on Sunday where they will meet the winners of St. Marys Belfast and Trinity College Dublin. The final is also set for Mallow GAA but with a later starting time of 12pm.
