A LECTURER in IT Tralee has been taken on board as the new strength and conditioning coach for the Limerick hurlers.

Joe O’Connor lectures in the physiology and performance training in the IT and runs NISUS Fitness in Killerisk Business Park.

The native of Rathkeale made a name for himself under Davy Fitzgerald stewardship of the Waterford and Clare hurlers. O’Connor was an integral part of the management team of Clare’s 2013 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship winning side.

O’Connor has featured on RTE’s ‘Ireland Fittest Family’ as a Fitness and Performance Expert.  Limerick manager TJ Ryan has appointed O’Connor as part of a re-jig of his backroom staff ahead of 2016 campaign.

The strength and conditioning guru was involved with the Kerry team that won the 2011 Christy Ring Cup and has also translated his expertise across to the big ball when he helped out Dr Crokes in their quest for an All-Ireland title for two seasons.

The management team is expected to be finalised at the Limerick GAA September county meeting.
