James Finnegan will read A Christmas Carol this evening (Wednesday).

POETRY Emotion Ireland is hosting an online reading of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’ adapted and performed by Tralee actor James Finnegan this evening, Wednesday, December 30th at 8pm.

James, who is also the resident movie reviewer of this parish,  has adapted this much loved story and will present it in the manner of Dickens himself, who gave well over a hundred public readings until his passing in 1870, a hundred and fifty years ago.

It was presented last December at Maddens Creative Hub in Tralee to great acclaim.  Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, a live audience performance was not possible this year, but in answer to numerous requests, and the kind support and encouragement of Donagh McKeown, former BBC presenter and producer, the show will go out under the Poetry Emotion Ireland Facebook Live Zoom series this Wednesday.

First published in December 1843, ‘A Christmas Carol’ has never been out of print, and has been presented in numerous stage and screen adaptations.

It is the famous story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a bitter old man who is visited by the ghost of not only his former partner Jacob Marley, but also the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come to offer a warning to change his ways.
