AN American satellite-based technology company will create more than 30 specialised  jobs over the course of five years in a new premises in Killarney, where it has moved to from its Tralee office.

VT iDirect’s new offices are located at The Reeks Gateway building in Killarney. In 2014, the US based company bought out Altobridge, which was based in Kerry Technology Park, Tralee and established an office at Liber House in Monavalley.

However, the company moved out of that Tralee office a few weeks ago to their new home in Killarney. We put a query to the company as to why they moved from Tralee, but they have yet to respond.

IDA Ireland’s CEO Martin Shanahan said; “This is a unique technology project in a regional location like Killarney. It will be a valuable addition to the telecommunications sector in Ireland, and will be well positioned to respond to continuous growth in demand for satellite technologies in the EMEA region,” said Mr Shanahan.

The project was warmly welcomed by Minister for Jobs Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD. “Bringing 30 quality technical jobs to County Kerry is very welcome and Killarney will benefit significantly from this investment,” she said.

The new engineering roles that will be created at the facility will focus on software, firmware, hardware, radio frequency and systems engineering technologies.

Other centres are located in Ottawa (Canada), Singapore, Cranfield (UK) as well as Herndon, Virginia (US).
