HE’S on the up and up.

Soccer star John Egan, son of the late Kerry GAA legend John, has made a move from Gillingham to English Championship side Brentford.

The 23 year old defender had a great past season and was picked on the League One PFA Team of the Season thanks to his performances for the League One side.

He had no hesitation in joining from the club after he heard that The Bees were interested in his services.

The 23-year-old defender penned a three-year deal at Griffin Park in London on Friday after his contract with the Gillingham ran out last month.

“I knew all along that I would go to Gillingham for two years and I believed in myself that I could get a move to the next level,” he told the Brentford FC website. “I believe that there is a really good core of players here who will help me to step up my game,” he added.

John made six appearances for the Republic Of Ireland Under 21 side, but a good season in the championship could see the Kerry GAA supporter – despite his Cork upbringing – knocking on the door of the senior side. Give it socks John!
