U16 Central Region – Round 3

Castlegregory 4-9 Mitchels 3-14

This was a very entertaining close encounter played in perfect conditions  in Castlegregory. We travelled out there missing a few key players but an outstanding performance from all players saw us travelling home with the points.

It was a very attacking first half where the game was end to end until a perfect placed penalty from Jack Myers put us 2 points up at half time.

Michael Kelleher and Ryan Ward were picking off scores for us while Jack buried another brilliant penalty to put us 5 points up with 10 minutes to go.

We held out to win due to top class defending led by Eoin Barden and Mark Ryle. We lined out as follows Shane McCarthy, Eoin Barden, Tagdh Broderick, Johnny Downey, Mark Ryle, James O’Connor, Shane Doyle, Jack Myers(2-0), Ryan Ward(1-4), Graham Hudson(0-1), Aaron Pitman, Mikey Kelleher(0-7), Conor O’Brien(0-2) Subs: Kenny Foran, Darrion Hurley, Dylan O’Shea, Gerald Tobin, Sean Gannon.

We wish Gerald Tobin a speedy recovery after fracturing his collarbone after coming on during the second half.

SYMPATHY
John (Jack) Moriarty 1963 – 2015
It was with deep sadness that members and supporters of John Mitchel’s Club learned of the passing of Jack Moriarty. Surrounded by his loving family Jack passed away on Friday 10 April in Beaumont Hospital.

Jack was born in 1963 and resided in the family home in Garryruth, Tralee.
In 1974 Jack along with his team mates joined what became one of the great club sides of the 1980’s.

His team won the under 14 County Championship in 1977 and went on to win the Div1 Minor County League in 1980. In 1982 Jack joined the senior ranks and played in a position he was to dominate at right half back. He was on the winning John Mitchel’s team that defeated Spa Killarney/Glenflesk in the final of the under 21 County Championship in 1983.

Jack featured greatly throughout the match marking Mickey McAuliffe who played minor, under 21 and senior for Kerry. Jack was also a member of the team that was defeated by Laune Rangers in the 1989 Senior County Championship final.

All associated with John Mitchel’s club in Jack’s era agree that he brought a certain flare, class and dedication to his team and club.

In 1989 he took up a position as an Eircom Technician in Limerick and continued to play senior football for John Mitchel’s until his retirement in 1990. He played inter-firm Gaelic football in Limerick City and became involved with Clonlara GAA club Co. Clare where the family home is situated.

Jack is laid to rest in Donass Cemetery near Clonlara Village Co. Clare
We at John Mitchel’s GAA club Tralee extend our sincere sympathy to Jack’s wife Mary his sons Sean, Cian and Aidan, brother Kieran and sister Mary, his nieces, nephews, uncle, aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, relatives and his many friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
