ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE:
John Mitchels had a great turnout in St Patrick’s Day parade and full credit to the players, parents and mentors for showing their support to the Club.

Div 1 County League Fixtures 2017 Round 1:
We played Glenbeigh/Glencar away last Sunday. This was going to be a difficult encounter for Mitchels as Glenbeigh/Glencar are reigning All Ireland Junior Champions. The day was dry with a very strong cross field wind which was of no benefit to either team.

We started off at a blistering pace with Niall Sheehy scoring two goals in the first 7 minutes of the game. Kieran Courtney scored a point from a free which was followed by a Mitchels point from play by Alan O’Donoghue. Glenbeigh dominated the remainder of the 1st half scoring a further 1-02, leaving the half time score Glenbeigh 1-03, Mitchels 2-01.

At the opening of the 2nd half Glenbeigh scored 2 points from play leaving them a point ahead of Mitchels. Mitchels levelled the match with a point from play from Niall Sheehy. Glenbeigh hit a purple patch scoring 5 points without replay 4 from play and 1 from a free. Leaving the score line Glenbeigh 1-10 Mitchels 2-02 going into the last quarter.

Niall Sheehy narrowed the margin to 4 points with a well taken free but Glenbeigh followed up with a further 2 points leaving a 6 point margin with 10 minutes remaining.

Mitchels fought back bravely with a point from play from Alan O’Donoghue and 2 converted frees, one from Niall Sheehy and one from James Duggan.

With only 3 points in it, Mitchels pressed hard for an equalising goal and came very close in a last gasp effort by George Bastible, which was deflected over the bar leaving the final score Glenbeigh 1-12, John Mitchels 2-07.

MINORS:
Mitchels Minors continued on their winning ways with a hard earned victory over a dogged Spa In tricky conditions in Killarney.

We played against a stiff breeze in the first half and went in trailing by 4 points at the interval on a score 2-03 to 0-05. Mike Kelleher scoring three from frees and 2 from play by Cian Holden.

On the resumption we enjoyed our best spell tacking on 1-04 without reply to put us in the driving seat. To be fair to Spa, they rallied and only for a late goal from impressive Darren Hurley we secured our third win on the bounce.

Final score Mitchels 2 -14 Spa 3 -07
