SENIOR MEN CO LEAGUE –  Round 7:
We played Kerins O’Rahillys last Saturday evening in Round 7 of the Co League. This was a vital game for both teams as Kerins O’Rahillys were on 5 points and John Mitchels on 6 points.

KOR started well with 4 points from Tommy Walsh and a goal from Cian Sayers within the first 10 minutes of play. Mitchels dominated the remainder of the 1st quarter with 2 points from Alan O’Donoghue, 1 point from James Duggan and a well taken goal from Peter Murphy leaving the score line to 1-04 to 1-03 in favour of KOR.

KOR followed up with a point from play from Tommy Walsh. John Mitchels finished the stronger in the end of the 1st half  with an Alan O’Donoghue point from a free and a successfully taken penalty by James Duggan.

Shane O’Connor scored a long range point from play finishing off the scoring in the 1st half. Half time score Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05 to John Mitchels 2-05.

Once again it was KOR who dominated the start of the 2nd half scoring 3 points from play in quick succession to level the game. Alan O’Donoghue eased Mitchels ahead with a converted free.

Tommy Walsh put over 2 more points to edge Rahillys ahead. Sean Moloney put Mitchels ahead again with a well taken goal and Tommy Walsh scored a point from play leaving the score at the end of the 3rd quarter KOR 1-11 John Mitchels 3-06.

The game was in the melting pot heading into the last quarter. KOR levelled the game with a converted free.

James Duggan edged Mitchels ahead with another point. With KOR scoring two points in succession which gave them a one point lead going into injury time. Peter Murphy was heading for a goal when he was pulled down in the square.

Lawrence Bastible came forward to take the resultant penalty and with calmness and composure struck it into the net giving a 2 point victory to John Mitchels in a final score line

JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE – Round 4
We had a good win at home to Moyvane last Monday in Round 4 of the Co League. We started slowly and were 4 points behind before Cian O Brien kicked some good points to leave us level after the opening 15 minutes.

We finished the half strongly and goals from Conor Hurley and Peter Murphy saw us leading at half time by 2-7 to 7 points.  Moyvane again started the 2nd half well and had an opportunity to close the gap to 2pts but a fantastic penalty save from Peter Nammock proved to be a turning point and we went on to add further goals through Mark Ryle and Ciaran Killen to run out convincing winners on a final score of 4-10 to 1-8.

U14 BOYS
We took on Strand Road in Round Two of the County League last Monday
at home. The game was played on a very wet night and conditions were tough for both sides.
Strand Road got off to a flyer and bossed the first half, we went in at half time trailing by 2-8 to 1-1 with Conor Commane’s goal on the stroke of half time whistle giving us a bit of hope.
We started the second half with much more purpose and quickly clawed back the deficit helped by a Hat trick of goals from Darragh Caplis and found ourselves in front coming in to the closing stages. Credit to Strand Road they got two late points to equalise and a breath-taking second half finished in a draw
with the final score of Mitchels 5-8 Strand Road 2-17.
