SENIOR MEN CO LEAGUE –  Round 8:
We played St Mary’s away last Saturday evening in the 8th round of the Senior League. Both teams found the ground conditions tricky as we had continuous mist both before and during the game.

St Mary’s led Mitchels 2 points to 1 when the referee awarded a penalty to Mitchels due to an off the ball foul to Alan O’Donoghue in the square. Lawrence Bastible scored the penalty giving Mitchels a lead of 1-01 to 0-02 to Caherciveen.

Caherciveen dominated the remainder of the 1st half scoring 6 points without reply until the final minute of the 1st half when Brian Costello scored a goal for Mitchels leaving the half time score  St Mary’s 0-08 Mitchels  2-01.

St Mary’s added a further 4 points in the 3rd quarter and Mitchels scored 2 points from Alan O’Donoghue frees leaving the score St Mary’s 0-12 Mitchels 2-03.

In the final quarter we were treated to a host of scores from both sides and when Shane O’Connor scored a goal from play and a converted free both teams were level on the 29th minute leaving the score St Mary’s 0-15 Mitchels 3-06.

St Mary’s rallied with a further 2 points from play but credit to Mitchels in added time added 2 points from play from Alan O’Donoghue and Shane O’Connor to level the match in the 34th minute.

Just as we all thought that the game would end in a draw St Mary’s won possession from the kick out  and quickly carried the ball to the Mitchels end scoring the winning point from play resulting in a final score of St Mary’s 0-18 Mitchels 3-08.

We are home to Templenoe  next Sunday July 23rd @ 2.00 p.m.

Juniors Town League:
We continued our good start to the Town League with a win away to Na Gaeil on a score of 1-11 to 8 points last Monday.

We started very well and got some great scores through Cian O’Brien,  Graham Higgins, Akeem Mulloy and Robert Sullivan to lead by 1-4 to 2 points after the opening 20 minutes.

Na Gaeil finished the half the stronger but a fantastic penalty save by Paul O’Connor saw us maintain our lead at the interval on a score of 1-6 to 7 points.

There was very little between the teams throughout the 2nd half but some great defending by John Maher, Mark Ryle and Akeem Mulloy ensured we held out for the win.

We now have a break in the Town League for a few weeks and our next match is the Co League Final which is currently scheduled for Friday 28th July.
