ACTIVE RETIREMENT CHRISTMAS PARTY:

The 17th year of the Active Retirement Christmas Party was held at the John Mitchels Club House in John Joe Sheehy Road last Saturday.

On a seasonal cold but dry morning,  volunteers began to arrive at the Club House from 8.00 a.m. onwards. Floors were hoovered and tables were arranged and decorated in a festive manner.

The numerous hampers and spot prizes that were donated were on display on the stage prior to being given out later in the day.

Over 100 patrons began to arrive from noon onwards looking so well and dressed in their seasonal best.  They were greeted by the waft of seasonal turkey and ham dinners and were lead to their tables by the army of volunteers that were available to the Club on the day.

Grace was said by Irene and Eileen our two Community Gardaí. Following the meal the spot prizes were raffled prior to the arrival of the many musicians and a special appearance from Santa himself. The musicians played many old favourites and the patrons joined in with dance and song and many volunteered to sing and do their party pieces.

The Chairman Denis Mannix, on behalf of the Club thanked the generosity and kindness of the many sponsors, the fabulous meal prepared by Gallys and the many volunteers including several members of the Senior team, and the Organising Committee involved in the planning of the event and their contribution on the day.

Last but not least he thanked the patrons for coming on the day and wished them all Seasons Greeting and good health for the New Year.

It is wonderful to see our Annual Retirement Luncheon grow from strength to strength each year  and this is achieved through the hard work of the Organising Committee. It is heartwarming to see all the smiling faces and the laughter and chit chat all around the club house. Certainly Community and the Active Retirement Party held in the John Mitchels GAA Club go hand in hand and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
