Co League 2018 – Round 11 John Mitchels v Glenbeigh/Glencar

We played Glenbeigh/Glencar in the final round of the Senior Co League at home last Sunday afternoon.

Conditions were perfect for the game. Mitchels opened the score with a point from a Niall Sheehy free followed by a further point from Mikey Kelliher. Stephen O’Mahony and Niall Sheehy scored two further points in the 1st quarter and Glenbeigh/Glencar scored 2 points leaving the scoreline 0-04 to 0-02 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Mitchels added 3 further points before half time, 2 from Alan O’Donoghue points from play and 1 from a converted free from Niall Sheehy. Glenbeigh managed 4 points before halftime leaving a keenly contested 1st half leaving the scoreline John Mitchels 0-07, Glenbeigh 0-06.

As in the1st half Niall Sheehy added a point from a free in the 2nd minute. Mitchels added 4 further points in the 3rd quarter. Glenbeigh responded with a vital goal in the 8th minute and with 4 further points left the scoreline John Mitchels 0-12, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-10.

Both teams gave everything in the final quarter to the enjoyment of the spectators. Glenbeigh stretched the lead by 2 points but Mitchels levelled the matched with points from play from Stephen O’Mahoney and Seanie Moloney. Glenbeigh stretched ahead by the minimum with a point from play but with points from Niall Sheehy and Shane O’Connor Mitchels edged ahead with 8 minutes remaining.

Glenbeigh fought hard to level the game again when Mitchels scored a vital goal from the boot of Shane O’Connor after receiving an accurate cross field pass from Niall Sheehy. Mikey Kelliher Got the final score of the game  from a converted free to finish off the game leaving the final scoreline John Mitchels 1-17, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-13.

John Mitchels gave a great and spirited display but unfortunately are gone to Division 2 for next season after their 3rd season in Division 1. Hopefully their stay in Division 2 will be short lived and will be up in Division 1 at the end of next season.

U16 & U14 LADIES:
U14 and U16 ladies will start their North Kerry League shortly with fixtures on North Kerry Ladies Football webpage.
Training continues  on Thursdays at 6.30 p.m.

Next training session is next Sunday 26th of August until then kids keep on practicing!!

SPRING CLEANOUT – CLOTHES FUNDRAISER:
John Mitchels are commencing their Clothes Collection again for 2018 so please donate any unwanted Clothes and Textiles (clean re-wearable clothes, paired shoes, belts, handbags, curtains, towels, bed linen, soft toys are accepted) Where possible please donate at least 3+ bags – this really does raise much needed funds for our Club. Please drop items to the the Complex, Ballyseedy.

Our Bingo continues on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights. Bingo is a vital fundraiser for the Club and all funds raised from the Bingo goes directly back into the Club and all support is greatly appreciated. Any member who wishes to volunteer can do so by giving their details to any club officer.

JOHN MITCHELS SPORTS COMPLEX:
Our Sports Complex at Camp Ballyseedy is available for bookings on the Sports Hall and All Weather pitch. The Complex is also open for children’s parties. Further information contact the Club reception on 066 7197070.

MERCHANDISE:
Please note that all club merchandise is now available for purchasing only through Henneberys Sports Shop, Ashe St, Tralee and is no longer for sale at our complex in Ballyseedy. Please also note that our Club colours are – Green and Gold Jerseys, White togs and Green and Gold socks.
