UNDER 8’S

John Mitchel’s U8 Boys had another great session last Sunday morning. The session started with a group warm up followed by a few fun games. After the fun games things got a bit competitive with a very enjoyable hand passing game with some great skills on show. Next week were hoping to move outdoors weather permitting parents will be notified via text or Facebook.

UNDER 8 AND 10 GIRLS

There was another impressive turnout in Ballyseedy on Sunday for the John Mitchel’s u8 and u10 girls, with a fantastic and energetic training session which was enjoyed by all.

We were delighted to welcome Grace, Ava and Jenny to the session and they really played their part in the drills and games. It is fantastic to see our players pass the word onto their friends and classmates and to see new faces every week is a huge boost to the club.

With Millie and Grace both having celebrated birthdays recently, the girls sang Happy Birthday to the two before the group got down to business.

Despite the break for St Patrick’s Day, the girls showed no sign of rustiness, with Courtney and Madison demonstrating that they had been practicing their skills at home. Layla and Sophia’s hand passing skills have really improved over the past few weeks, while Amberleigh is growing in confidence throughout.

Some competitive drills got the girls cheering on their teams. The group finished up with a game, with Hannah in fine scoring form at one end, while at the other, Gia set up a defensive wall that the opposition forwards found hard to breach. Although on different teams, Ella and Sophie stood out, and the twins ran the length of the court.

As ever, the emphasis is on having fun and learning the skills of the game, and everyone is welcome with training in Ballyseedy on Sunday mornings from 10am-11am.

UNDER 10 BOYS

Top class training on Sunday on the astro pitch with Paddy, Cody, Calvin and Jack working hard on catching and kicking. Donnacha, Sean, Dylan, Ethan and Eamon kept their concentration well and showed the improving skill levels, well done. Luke, Darragh, Rory and Ronan played their heart out in the game at end and made some vital interceptions and passes, good work. Well done to everyone and we will see you all again next Sunday.

LADIES

U 14 LADIES played their second county league game away to Listowel last Sunday afternoon. Mitchel’s were down numbers on the day but that didn’t stop them playing against a very strong Listowel team. Well done girls keep it going and well done

U 18 MINOR LADIES We played our second game in the minor league last Wednesday evening against Beaufort at home in Ballyseedy. This was a tight first half with us trailing by 2 points. The second half we continued to work hard but went down to 14 due to injury, this changed the game in favour of Beaufort and despite our staunch hard work we went down in the end by 2 goals. Thanks to Beaufort who agreed to play us a short notice

Senior Ladies County League Monday 18th March. We played our first county league game at home to Ballymac in dry but windy conditions. We were a bit nervous starting and hit a few wides before settling down and a Niamh Myers penalty giving us an edge before Ballymac hit us for a brace of goals. Leaving half time Mitchel’s 1-7 to Ballymac 3-1.

The second half continued with scores being exchanged before a goal run put Mitchel’s 6 points up. Ballymac again replied with goals of their own leaving only a goal between the sides with full time looming Ballymac launched another attack but good goalkeeping by Kayleigh lead to a swift move upfield.

Where Cliona Hays hit the security score. Final Score John Mitchel’s 4-12 Ballymac 5-5 full credit to both teams for a very sporting game. Mitchel’s line out. Kayleigh Collins, Tanya O Connor, Emma Carmody, Tara Fitzgerald, Niamh Flattery, Anna Murphy, Julie Foley, Niamh Myers (1-5) Simi O Gungsbesan, Sarah Kilgallen (0-1) Ava Buckley (1-0) Grace Myers (1-0) Ciara Kilgallen, Cliona Hayes (0-5) Ruth Moriarty (1-1), Rachel Kilgallen (Inj).

Senior Ladies:

Mary Jo Curran Cup. We played Kilcummin in Rd 1 of the MJC on Sunday 24th at home in a dry windy Ballyseedy. Mitchel’s settled well with the breeze and points from Niamh and Cliona followed by a goal from Ava left us in a strong position with some great defence by Patriz and Sarah and Ciara on the wings working hard we went in at half time leading 2-5 to 0-3,

The second half saw us playing into a strong breeze with Kilcummin pulling the game back point by point. But some excellent defending by our backs kept Kilcummin at bay lead by Ashleigh supported by Tara, Emma and Tanya in defence. A great interception from Niamh F lead to a sweeping team move with Leona and Grace feeding Ruth to hit the back of the net.

Final Score Mitchel’s 3-7 Kilcummin 0-7. This was a very good team performance with everybody working hard Well-done Ladies, Panel. COUNTY CLEAN-UP DAY:

The annual County Clean-Up Day has been launched and everyone in the county is being asked to get involved and play their part. Now in its seventh year and with the support of Kerry County Council and KWD Recycling, the County Clean-up will take place on Saturday, 13th April. We at John Mitchel’s will be taking part in this initiative and we will be calling on members to volunteer a little of their time on the day….

CLOTHES COLLECTION:

We have joined up with St Vincent De Paul to rise much needed funds for both John Mitchel’s and SVP. Vincent’s charity shops are a very important aspect of the service SVP provides. Not only do they provide people with new and lightly worn items at affordable prices, they also provide an income source for the Society, which is recycled directly back into the community.

By donating your second-hand clothes and unwanted items to your closest charity shops, not only will you be freeing up space in your home, you will also be making a difference to people in need, in your community.

We now have an SVP clothes bank in our car park at our state-of-the-art sports facility in Ballyseedy.
