What a fantastic day of football on Saturday last folks well done to all teams who participated in the u8s and u10s games from early morning until mid-afternoon.

Well done to especially the mighty Cordal u10s who took home the coveted trophy, beating Na Gael in a pulsating final!!!! The cup was presented to joint Captains Tadgh and the mighty Julie who both thanked their team mates, their parents, john Mitchel’s and Na Gael for a sporting final. A credit to their club!

Well done Cordal from all here at John Mitchel’s GAA club and well done to all the teams, mentors and their parents who were exemplary all day long – we hope to see ye all again next year.

John Mitchel’s U8 boys training continues every Sunday morning from 11.00am to 12.00pm Everyone Welcome!!

UNDER 10 BOYS

What a day of football we had on Saturday. It started off showery but when it dried up it was lovely like our football at times. Our first game was against Keel and was an even game but we pulled away in the second half.

We had a short break to the next game against St. Pats Blennerville and with all our players now in full flow and everyone having an impact on the game we came out on top again.

Next on our radar was Kerins O Rahilly’s and again all the team played their part, there was great tackling, passing, kicking and score taking shown by the lads, it was great to see. We won that one as well so it was 3 out of 3.

Next we faced a fancied Cordal side, this was our fourth game and fatigue may have been a problem but after two titanic halves we just about lost and you could see that all the players were disappointed. Our last game was against Milltown and we never got fully going, after a tight contest we just went down by a few points.

Thanks very much to all the players and their parents for turning up, it made the day special. Thanks to all the other clubs it was great to have the competition, and thanks to Kevin McMahon who organised this wonderful competition for our club. Well done to Cordal who won out the competition but if we were to play them again the result could have been different with a bit of luck

UNDER 8 & UNDER 10 GIRLS:

The threat of bad weather didn’t put off any of the John Mitchel’s u8/10 girls when they turned up in numbers for a great training session in Ballyseedy on Sunday morning.
Coaches Caroline and Padraig were ready for the girls and were delighted to welcome a new member, Zoe, who knew some of her teammates from school and was made very welcome. Zoe will be a great addition to the team and fitted in immediately.

Following a thorough warm-up session by Caroline, the girls went into pairs and started practicing their hand passing skills, moving the ball at pace and accurately. This was followed by a score kicking competition with the remainder of the training session consisting of a practice match.

It is brilliant for the coaches to see the hard work put into the training sessions throughout the year coming to the fore as there was some excellent passages of play during this game.

Sophie, Zoe, Ella, and Gia kicked some excellent scores, but they were made work hard throughout by Courtney, Grace, Leila, Aeibhin and Nadia. At midfield, Ciara, Hannah, Millie and Emily moved the ball swiftly and the passing moves were fantastic. Training continues next week and all players are encouraged to practice their skills, particularly their kicking and soloing during the week.
