John Mitchels GAA Club News

The under 6 boys and girls had a great session last Sunday. They all made a huge effort and the results were fantastic. Their ball handling skills are improving by the day Well done all. It’s very important that everyone turns up next Sunday and any newcomers welcome. Registration for the year will take place so we need you all to be there. Looking forward to seeing you then.

Hi folks John Mitchel’s U8 Boy’s had another great session on Sunday last.

We started out with practicing our hand passing & catching & quickly followed that by some kick passing & catching. It’s great to see our U8 Boy’s improve every week but as our coaches keep saying “Practice makes Perfect”

Next Sunday we are having a registration/welcome & fitting day for our new gear in our complex. They will be tea’s & coffee’s upstairs in our members lounge for the parents & Bouncy castle’s & fun games for the kids in our sports hall Everyone Welcome!!

Once more there was a fantastic turnout in Ballyseedy on Sunday mornings for training for the John Mitchel’s girls u-8 and u-10s. Even though it is the start of the season, the numbers showing up for training has been excellent and we are very grateful to the girls’ parents for making the effort to bring them up. It is also very satisfying for the coaches to see the improvement in skills from week to week. As we try and give them more challenges, they are more than capable for the challenge and each week we see the need to up the skill level once more. A lot of this is down to the girls practicing their skills at home during the weeks, with their parents and brothers and sisters roped into helping out during these practice sessions. This week we concentrated on hand passing once more and are introducing greater levels of difficulty, to replicate game situations. This included a long game in a tight area, where the girls had to pass to teammates and try and get scores. The coaches were really surprised at how good the passes were, under severe pressure. As ever, training continues every Sunday morning in Ballyseedy from 10-11am. Currently we are indoors, but it won’t be long before the weather improves and we are able to get outside and get some fresh air.

Despite a heavy snow shower trying its best to curtail the football, our boys had a good workout last Sunday morning on the astro pitch. They did some kicking, hand passing & movement drills & were well warmed up for the end of training game which is always ultra-competitive. Once again, a last second score meant it ended all square with a few players looking for us to install hawk eye as soon as possible. There’s a registration open day next Sunday morning so no football but we’ll have games & bouncy castles so make sure to come early, bring a friend & have fun. There will also be john Mitchel’s club gear on sale or available to order. See you all next Sunday morning bright & early.

Unfortunately, the poor weather played Havoc with Training and Games this week. Thursday evening was the only session this week with a big emphasis on punt kicking and high catching among the 22 players who braved the bad weather.

Last Sunday was supposed to be the opening game of the season versus Austin Stacks but Storm Jorge put an end to that fixture and left a lot of disappointed young players on both sides with a free Sunday.

Training continues this week 5.45pm to 7pm sharp on both Tuesday and Thursday and a full attendance is expected with upcoming games in the Tralee Town League against Ballymac next Sunday 8th March at 5pm in John Mitchel’s sports complex and we will have games every Sunday for the next few months.
