UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

John Mitchel’s under 7s boys and girls trained last Sunday mornings at 11am as part of our academy on the astro turf. 81young boys and girls lined out in their respective pods to learn new skills and have some fun also.

We observed a minute silence in respect of their coach and friends Tim Broderick who regretfully passed away suddenly during the week.

The boys and girls were incredible and observed it impeccably. Tim would certainly have been so proud.

Sincere condolences to Rosemary and their three sons.

Don’t forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

U8/U10 GIRLS

As the sun shone down on the John Mitchel’s complex in Ballyseedy on Sunday, it was a return to football action after the news of the sad passing of our juvenile coach Tim Broderick.

The training session was spirited and competitive, under the watchful eye of Padraig, Tanya and Ruth and the drills concentrated on long kicking. It was clear again that there had been some hard work done during the week by the girls, and they are coming on in leaps and bounds.

Tegan, the two Roisin’s, Ellie Mae, Karolina, Natalia, Millie, Maddison, the two Aine’s, Noelle, Nicole, Ella, Siun, Lucy, Caoimhe, Ally, Charlie, Eva, Ava, Emma, Saoirse, Amelia, and Alannah, were just some of the stand-outs during the practise match that ended the session.
After an impeccably observed minute’s silence, the girls were sent home with instructions to practice their kicking over the weekend.

Training continues at 10.30am next Sunday morning in the John Mitchel’s Complex. All are welcome, and we’d love to see more new faces.

UNDER 13 BOYS

John Mitchel’s U13 boys had a great training session last Tuesday night concentration on passing and forward movement and finished off with some kicking practice under pressure. Unfortunately, events of that same night took a sad turn while we all went home for a shower and a bit of food the sudden and unexpected passing of our great friend and fellow club coach Tim Broderick took place. Tim was the man who introduced most of these U13 boys to football back when they joined the academy at the age of 5and 6. He proudly followed their progress every year since.

Tim’s positive friendly nature was always evident in everything he did and his outlook on the participation in the GAA and having fun rather than worrying about winning was something a lot of us coaches could learn from.

To Rosemary and the boys, the U13s would like to send our sympathies and we will never forget what Tim did for all us players and coaches down through the years and hopefully we will continue to do him proud.

SYMPATHY:

RIP Tim Broderick

It is with tremendous sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the sudden loss of one of our most beloved coaches and friends, Tim Broderick.

Originally, a proud son of Duagh, Tim was working in Cork and had not long moved back to Tralee when the club asked him to get involved in our juvenile academy. Being a true GAA man, he did not need to be asked twice and he literally hit the ground running impressing from the very first session he took. For well over 10 years, Tim had been an integral part of our academy section and in particular the U6s. He loved training our future stars and his number one objective was to always have fun and enjoyment! After every Sunday morning training session, Tim was always up for a laugh with his fellow coaches. With a deep love of North Kerry football and of course Duagh, the craic and banter were to the fore in particular if a certain Anthony Maher was mentioned in the conversation!

Tim’s family is also heavily involved with the club. His wife Rosemary is a club patron being involved in many initiatives down through the years. Son’s Donagh, Tadgh and Sean have all played underage with the Mitchel’s club for many years and have also been a huge help with the John Mitchel’sSummer Camps down through the years. 2020 was an immensely proud year for Tim as son Sean became the Kerry minor goalkeeper. We know that Tim was looking forward with eager anticipation to Sean lining out in the U17 All Ireland Championship semi-final after winning his Munster minor championship medal in December 2020. Even though he will not be there to attend the remainder of the championship, we know he will be there in spirit when they take to the field once more and hopefully Sean will lift the All-Ireland trophy in memory of his Dad.

A real old stock character, Tim was a brilliant neighbour to all in The Belfry and the kind of person who would literally give you the shirt off his back. Not only did he set the standard for being a wonderful human being in life, he emphasised all that was good in the GAA. Much more than a GAA coach, he was a friend, a confidant and a true Gael. Even after the upheaval of the club moving from the heart of Tralee to Ballyseedy, Tim maintained the nursery section with large groups of kids going through his hands ensuring the future of the club was bright. Up to last Sunday Tim was up coaching with us and there were large numbers of kids streaming out after a wonderful session. He has fostered a sense of pride in John Mitchel’s GAA club for these kids whilst at the same time creating that fun environment that is needed. Some accolade to a wonderful man!

One of the many flowing tributes to Tim could not have been said much better by one of his fellow coaches. ‘’Tim was a great man in every sense of the word. I looked up to him as a father figure, football coach and a gentleman. He was always positive and encouraging and he went beyond being helpful. I personally will miss him every day I train the under 7s. The world is definitely a poorer place without him.’’

He is a huge loss to his family, his community and to John Mitchel’s GAA Club. As the saying goes ‘no man is indispensable but some are irreplaceable’ and Tim was certainly one of those men.

Our thoughts are with Rosemary, Donagh, Tadgh and Sean and the extended Broderick Family at this very sad time.

Please note A private family funeral will take place for Tim on Monday, May 24th, in St John’s Parish Church, Tralee at 2.00PM followed by burial in New Rath Cemetery, Tralee. The Mass will be live streamed online

Rest in Peace our dear friend Tim
