UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

57 boys and girls trained in glorious sunshine and sweltering heat on Sunday.  Great efforts were made in warm conditions.  Some lovely football was in evidence between multiple water breaks and one ice cream stop. It was richly deserved.  New members are always welcome, and we train again next Sunday at 11 am

U8/U10 GIRLS

The amazing weather at the weekend meant that Sunscreen and Water were the order of the day at the John Mitchel’s Girls u-8 and U-10 training.

Despite the soaring temperatures the girls lined up ready for action and with matches coming up in the coming weeks, the order of the day was game activity, with the emphasis on scoring and gameplay.

Plenty of water breaks were spread throughout the session, but we saw some excellent scoring from Caoimhe, Michaela, Ava, Millie and Aine. After yet another water break, a game broke out with the emphasis on keeping possession and finding a team-mate, while the opposition were working on marking tightly and disrupting the flow of the game.

The game gradually expanded with kick passing and working on passing patterns, with both Roisins, Siun, Lucy and Eva, the 2 Aine’s, and Nicole all working hard on getting those passing moves linked up.

Afterwards the club shop had a successful outing, with everybody lining up for a cooling ice cream.

It is hoped to play a challenge game against another club next weekend, and we will contact parents with details ahead of time.

Training continues next Sunday at 10.15 and it is important to get as many players as possible to training over the coming weeks.

UNDER 12 GIRLS

Under 12 girls ran out impressive winners this Sunday evening in the North Kerry league Division 5 trophy final against Kerins o Rahilly’s. The Mitchel’s girls put on a cracking display of football for the home supporters, giving the travelling team a lot to think about at half time. The home side dominated possession and scoring despite the brave and spirited efforts of the KOR team who showed some classy football at times. In the end Mitchel’s were comfortable winners and look forward to the upcoming county league. Well done to all involved.

Training continues Wednesday 6.30pm, all welcome.

UNDER 13 BOYS

On an evening only fit for the beach, our two U13 teams faced off against what have become familiar foes in Laune Rangers, this time in Killorglin in the first game of Phase 2 of the County League Division 1

Green Team

Our Green team were looking to continue their winning pahse but knew they would not have it easy against the men from the Laune. The first half was closely fought, the teams going in level at half time.

A few positional switches at half time saw us put some quick scores up and we played out the half in fine style to be victorious by 10 points at the finish

FINAL SCORE

John Mitchel’s Green 2-13

Laune Rangers 0-9

Gold Team

Laune Rangers have proven to be the gold teams Bogey team the past two seasons but our lads were determined to put this to bed from the start. Two early goals served to settle our nerves and we held a five point advantage by half time.

The start of the second half again saw us strike for two goals in quick succession, leaving us with a nice cushion going into the final quarter. The Killorglin lads came at us hard but the Gold Team were determined not to let it slip and were excellent value for a nine point win on the night

FINAL SCORE

John Mitchel’s Gold 4-08

Laune Rangers 1-08

A great start for both teams in Phase 2! We now have a well earned break next week from matches due to the Munster Final. Confirmation of training will be sent to parents in the coming days

Training continues Tuesdays and Thursdays 5.45pm

On Monday night our Under 17s played Na Gaeil in the Central League in Ballyseedy. We came out powerfully victorious in a 11 a side game when we had 19 players and all players got a game and played very well. Great to get two wins on a bounce and build a bit of momentum before a very tough game v St Michael Foilmore Monday night at home 7:30pm.

SENIOR LADIES

Senior ladies played against a strong Clounmacken/Moyvane team on Monday at home. The game got off to a strong start for Clounmaken as they totted up the scores on the board. The Mitchel’s ladies battled hard but with so many injuries and missing players it was all one sided in the first 15 mins. Mitchel’s came into the game after the first water break to get a few scores of their own. Great teamwork was on display as the ladies got stuck In and fought hard for the ball every time. The score did not reflect in the end, but the ladies kept going until the final whistle. The ladies play their next game on Monday 19th at 7.30pm. Please show your support.

Anyone interested in joining should come along and give it a go. If you are 16 and over, you are more than welcome to join. Great way to meet new people and keep active also.

SENIOR MEN

The senior men played away to Stacks on Saturday evening under glorious weather. The heat was tough for both teams, but Stack came out the victors in the end. By half time John Mitchel’s were down to 0-9 -0-4 where the boys had a much better third quarter pulling the game back to a four point defecate, despite a hectic final quarter the boys were pressed hard in a series of wides that left us down by 3 points at the final whistle. The senior men are out again. Wides from frees and from play were by far the let down and hopefully will be worked on before their next outing. Final score Austin Stacks: 0-14(14) John Mitchel’s: 0-11(11)

Training continues Tuesday evening in preparation for their next run out away to Dingle date to be confirmed. More details to follow.
