UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS
We had a huge turnout for football this Sunday.
36 of our young boys and girls were playing Na Gaeil up in Killeen. Great fun was had by all and there were several keenly contested matches.  The boys and girls were terrific. Much thanks to Na Gaeil for hosting and organising.
Meanwhile over 40 other boys and girls were training at the same time at our Ballyseedy complex. Lots of fun and football were on display. Much credit goes to the parents as the level of improvement at our training and games is evident for all to see. Keep up the practice!
As always it would be great to see new members. Training continues Sunday at 11am.

U8/U10 GIRLS
After a break from training last weekend and the rest of the week to get over the disappointment of Kerry’s defeat to Tyrone, there was another really good turnout at Ballyseedy on Sunday morning for the John Mitchel’s u8s and u10 girls training session. Welcome to Alannah and Natalia who joined the group this week.
After having a break from training last week, it was important to get back on the training pitch to sharpen up the skills that we have been focusing in on this summer. It was a session filled with good intensity and all the drills were carried out with great energy and great spirit.

The competitive nature of the drills was evident to see and the sprints between the girls were very tightly contested. This was followed by some drills designed to get the girls to communicate better and improve their ball skills and tackling.
Following some tackling drills, the session ended up with a long game between the players. It is clear to see that the girls are improving week on week and that they are developing into a really good group of footballers. The training game was filled with great point scoring, terrific defending, blocking down and tackling.
During the game, Caoimhe, Roisin, Áine, Peggy, Ava and Siún worked very hard, with Roisín D, Sophie, Lucy, Tegan and Ally all showing great skills.
Training resumes next Sunday at 10:30 am but with good weather forecasted, if you get a chance to practice the core skills of kicking, catching and hand passing during the week it will really help.

UNDER 12 GIRLS
U12s girls face Spa in the County league Division 7 A final this Wednesday at 6.30pm.
Mitchel’s have home advantage in the final having topped their group with a 100% winning record in their county league campaign. Best of luck to the girls.

Under 14/16 girls
North Kerry league is underway and Mitchel’s u14s narrowly lost to a good Ballyduff side in Tralee on Thursday night. A close contest throughout with just 4 points separating the teams at full time.
Currow next for the Tralee side where they will look for a much-needed away win.
Training continues for both groups on Sunday afternoons, 12.30-1.45pm, all welcome.

UNDER 9 BOYS
John Mitchel’s U9 Boys entertained Na Gael on Sunday last for some challenge games. A good attendance from both sides meant we could each put out 4 team’s ensuring everyone got plenty of ball. Our thanks to Na Gael for coming to us & we look forward to a return game soon. John Mitchel’s U9 will train again this Wednesday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm All Newcomers Welcome.

UNDER 13 BOYS
u13 Division 1 County League
John Mitchel’s 5-11
Keel/Listry 1-7

,

Another big night for our u13s as, like the green team last Sunday, the Golds were playing for a County League title. Facing Keel\Listry again, a tough battle was anticipated.
Keel\Listry had the better of the early exchanges, combining well in their forward line and picking off a number of great points. The Golds hit back though with a goal, after a goalmouth scramble saw the ball finish in the Keel\Listry net.

This helped to settle our lads down and from there to half time we were on top, a period of dominance which saw the Golds score another goal but also miss a number of scorable chances. At the other end Keel\Listrys dangerous forwards were continuing to cause trouble, striking for a goal of their own to leave only 3 points between the teams at the break.

The Golds knew that they needed to up the effort in the second half and they certainly did that, striking for 3 more goals to put us in a commanding position. Keel\Listry tried valiantly right to the final whistle but some tigerish defending from our backs kept them at bay. In fact, the defending and effort from all 15 was a sight to behold, putting Keel\Listry under constant pressure.
The final whistle blew to jubilant scenes as  John Mitchel’s u13 Golds were crowned the County League Division 1 Winners!!!!

.

Well, done to all players involved, who have trained hard all year and got their just rewards this evening for their skill, determination and dedication. It was brilliant to see all 30 u13 players present this evening to cheer on the golds, a great reflection on the character and togetherness within the group. For both u13 teams to win their divisions for the 2nd year running is a huge achievement and bodes very well for the future.

To head coach Johnny Brosnan and his management team, a big well done and thank you – success like this does not happen by chance and reflects the meticulous preparation and time dedicated to the team on their part.

Tralee and St Brendan’s League

No time to rest on our laurels our u13s were out again on Sunday evening, this time in the first round of Division 1 of the Tralee and St Brendan’s League. Old and familiar foes lay in wait in Churchill, who themselves were also on a high having recently captured the Division 2 County League Title. It was a tight low scoring game but we eventually came out on top by a margin of 4 points
Final Score
John Mitchel’s 1-8
Churchill 0-7

We were to face Austin Stacks next Sunday but this fixture will need to be reset due to Confirmation. No training this Tuesday as the lads get a well-earned break. We resume with a challenge game against Cork opponents next Thursday evening in Ballyseedy, time to be confirmed
