John Mitchels GAA Club News

50 boys and girls trained indoors in our complex Sunday despite the awful weather outside. The enthusiasm of the players was infectious and it’s fair to say the coaches enjoyed the session every bit as much as the children.

Second session and already the boys and girls are into the routine. Great fun was had during the relay races as well as the fundamentals games.
We train again next Sunday at 11am.

New players always welcome

The terrible weather meant that training came indoors on Sunday in the John Mitchel’s GAA Complex, with the u8 and U10 girls safe from the wind and the rain. But it didn’t mean that the action was any less intense, as the girls continued to ramp up their physical activity after the off-season.
After a light warm-up the skills sessions began with the girls paired off for kicking and handpassing skills, with Caoimhe, Siun, Aoibheann and Millie all standing out. Following this there was an intensive hand-passing game with the girls practicing their high-pressure passing and tackling skills to replicate game situations. Ava, Kayla and Clodagh all stood out, with a number of mini-breaks to ensure that the coaches were able to bring the girls attention to some skills breakdowns that needed to be caught early.
The day ended with a backs and forwards set up and again there was some excellent tackling and ball movement, which pleasantly surprised the coaches this early in the season.
Eva, Caoimhe Mai, Siun and Ciara stood out here and the girls were sent home with homework to practice their handpassing and kick passing.
Training continues next weekend at 11am on Sunday morning. All are welcome.

The bad weather didn’t hamper John Mitchel’s U9 Boys on Sunday last as we had another great turn out in our sports hall. We started the session with all ball work catching, passing & kicking. Then we did did a bit Strength & Conditioning which the kids love doing & as reward we finished up with cracking game of stuck in the mud which I think the coaches enjoy more then the kids 🤣

We worked on movement, hand passing off both hands and the near hand tackle and followed it up with a number of high intensity box drills Thanks to all the kids and coaches for turning up on what was a wild morning. Please remember to practice the skills that we spoke about this morning at home during the week. We continue training next Sunday  morning on the astro at 9.45 am. Mitchels Abú

We played Austin Stacks in the Town League in dreadful conditions at home last Sunday morning. The first half was played in horrendous wind and rain conditions were poor for both sides. The first half saw us excellent in defence with great performances from Padraig White, Akeem Molloy  The first half ended 1 point each and our score coming from James Duggan.

The conditions continued to worsen in the second half and we added excellent scores from James Duggan and ran out victorious on a score line of 4 points to 3 points .

Well done to both teams their management and their supporters for their commitment to the game for what was truly the most challenging of weather conditions.
