UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

50 boys and girls trained on Sunday morning in Ballyseedy. We had a great training session with a multitude of skills and games.  From the basics of the hop and solo to catching and kicking, the boys and girls showed great enthusiasm and no little skill.  Dodgeball, freeze, stuck in the mud and catch the coach were also in evidence as all had a great morning of fun and football.

We will train again next Sunday morning at 11am most likely indoors.  All new members are more than welcome.  And to those who are already members, being a friend, family relative or class mate. The more the better.

U8/U10/GIRLS

It was hard to believe the change in the weather from a week previously, when the stormy conditions had forced the John Mitchels u-8/10 girls indoors for training.

This Sunday, the weather was perfect for outdoor training and a large group of girls turned up to show off the work they had done over the week.

And it was clear to the coaches, Padraig, Tanya, Brian, and both Johns, that the extra homework they had done since the last training session was paying off. The passing was crisp and accurate, the kicking was sharp and the effort was top-notch. There was also a determination amongst the girls to fight and harry for each ball.

This was clear in the drills where the girls competed for each ball, with Ally, Emma, Siun, Tegan, Clodagh and Aoibheann working particularly hard. Following a quick drink of water, the girls took on a game. There the 2 Clodaghs were outstanding, while our newest recruit Natalie stood out, as did defensive efforts by Aeibhin, Eva, Siun, Aine and Caoimhe, with Millie’s scoring efforts particularly eye-catching. Shot of the day came from Tegan who curled the ball over the goalkeeper, but back off the crossbar.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Padraig who leaving the u 8s and u10 girls and who is joining the U14 girls’ team. Padraig was fantastic with the u 8s and 10s and the girls will miss the fun they have with him. Best of luck Padraig the girls will be back with you again in a few years’ time.

Training continues next Sunday in Ballyseedy Sports Complex. All are welcome.

U12Girls

The U12 girls season resumed with a fantastic turn out in Ballyseedy this morning. The girls were put through their paces by senior player Thomas Kerins who today focused on improving the core skills of the game. It was a session filled with kicking and hand passing drills and it was great to see that the girls were far from rusty after the winter break, as they really hit the ground running today. Intensity and focus was visible for all the coaches to see and we really look forward to working with a great bunch of girls for the season ahead.

Training resumes next Sunday morning at 12 am and we really look forward to seeing everyone again.

U14 Girls

The first training session of the season for the John Mitchel’s u14 girls took place indoors on Sunday in Ballyseedy

With new coaches Denis, Padraig, Karen, John and Eric hoping to continue the good work of John and James over the past few seasons, it was terrific to see a large group turn up for the first session.

We were delighted to have senior player Thomas Kearns take the training session in the hall, and he took the girls through some ball familiarisation skills and drills. The players and coaches were delighted to be back in action and while there was some rust at the start of the session, the old habits soon kicked in and the layers were working hard and competing for possession.

Training continues during the week and next weekend and parents will be contacted with details over the coming days.

U16 GIRLS

Training for our u 16 girls will commence on Wednesday March 2nd from 6.00pm-7.00pm.

We are looking forward to the season ahead with this group of players and seeing you all at Ballyseedy on the 2nd . All new players welcome

We are all volunteers so if u feel you are free to help out while Ur little one trains, please get in touch it would be much appreciated

Under 11Boys

We had a great turnout of 27 players this Sunday in what was a fantastic session based on soloing off both feet as well as hand passing off both hands, we emphasised to the kids the importance of practicing these core skills at home during the week. We will have town league games coming up in March followed by the County League in April – so plenty of games to look forward to! Training continues next Sunday morning on the Astro at 9.45.

Under 13 boys

Our U13s had their first matches of the season with two challenge games against a very competitive Killarney Legion who visited us on Sunday. In tough windy conditions both clubs were showing signs of rustiness but today’s games will hopefully help remove some of the cobwebs before next weeks Town League opener against Ballymac. Well done especially to all the players stepping up into U13 company for the first time today – ye all did fantastic!

Training continues Wednesday at 5.45pm and Friday at 8pm.

SENIOR MEN

Our senior men played St Pats in the next round of the town board. The game was away but due to pitch availability the game was held at the Mitchel’s grounds on Saturday evening in what you can say much better conditions than the previous week.

It was level pegging by half time with the score line being 0-04 to 0-04. Some great football was being played by both teams a crucial goal by Alan o Donoghue turned the game in Favor of Mitchel’s and Mitchel’s came out the victors in the end. Final score 1-09 to 1-06 .  John Mitchel’s face Ballymac in the next round of town league on Friday night under lights at 7.45pm
