John Mitchels faithful at the parade.

UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

We availed of the fine dry weather Sunday and moved outdoors to the Astro pitch to train.  Everyone engaged with great enthusiasm with great fun was had by all.  It was great to have a number of our senior players present to assist with the ‘Go Games’ and pass on valuable tips to our boys and girls.

Thanks to the senior team members who were able to attend. Training continues next Sunday morning at 11am. New players are always welcome and we look forward to seeing some new faces at training where you are sure to have good fun, in addition to learning lots of footballing skills.

U8/U10/GIRLS

A very large group of girls gathered on a beautiful Sunday morning in Ballyseedy for another fantastic training session. The coaches were very impressed with the skills on show once again showing the girls are practising at home.

The girls took to the handpassing and kick passing drills very well. Aoibheann, Tiegan, Aria, Seoda and Natelia impressed as did all the girls. Training continues Sunday at 11 in Ballyseedy. New players are always welcome.

U12 GIRLS

Spring sunshine greeted our U12 girls on Sunday morning as we began our preparation for our opening competitive fixture of 2022. The girls were in great spirits and showed great enthusiasm towards the skills drills that Sharon and James had prepared.

The session was excellent and the kick passing and hand passing drills were carried out with great intensity and skill. Training resumes next Wednesday evening at 6pm on our astro pitch and we look forward to seeing all our u12 girls in action again.

We play Knock/ Brosna next Sunday morning in Ballyseedy and all support would be greatly appreciated. Our Club colours are white shorts and green and gold socks. Please also bring a mouth guard and water to our training sessions and all games.

U14 GIRLS

There was no County League game this weekend for the John Mitchel’s u-14 girls, as our planned fixture was cancelled. As a result, training took place on the astro on Sunday morning in Ballyseedy. With a number of absentees due to illness, holidays and other sporting events, we were down somewhat on numbers, but despite this the players gave a good account of themselves.

We were delighted to welcome back John Mitchel’s senior player Thomas Kearns, who set out a challenging training session for the team, specifically designed to improve the skills of the players. The players themselves responded in kind, with the bit of friendly competition between them ensuring that they had got a good workout by the end of the session.

With the team going into a bye-week in next weekend’s round of County League figures, our next competitive game is 2 weeks away, but there will be a number of training sessions held over the intervening period, as coaches Denis, Pádraig, John, Karen and Eric work on improvements. Parents will be notified over the coming week of training sessions.

U16 GIRLS

John Mitchel’s U16 ladies were back in training this Saturday in preparation for the beginning of their 2022 County League campaign. The team will travel to Spa Killarney this Tuesday evening, and will be hoping to hit the ground running and come away with a result. Best of luck to the girls. Tuesday’s game is set to kick off at 6.00pm in Spa GAA grounds, Killarney. Training continues on Saturday at 2pm, all new players are welcome.

UNDER 9 BOYS

On Sunday morning under 9s trained outside availing of the good weather. Coaches have asked that the players continue to keep up the good work and try and get out and practice for at least 10mins a day and it will show in our friendly games. Practice doing solos, hand passes, press up and the plank. Looking forward to seeing all of the players again next week and players are asked not to forget boots, gumshields and water

UNDER 11 BOYS

Thanks to Na Gaeil who visited us in Ballyseedy on a fabulous Sunday morning where we had a fantastic turnout of 30 John Mitchels players.  Both games were very competitive and there was some stand out performances on both teams. Thanks again to Aidan and all from Na Gaeil. We play Austin Stacks this week in the first game of the town league. Text will be sent during the week in relation to time and venue.

UNDER 13 BOYS

With our Bs having a bye this week the u13 As had their final game in the Town League group stages against Na Gaeil on Sunday.

This was a tight affair for the majority of the game with our lads really only pulling away in the final quarter and the final score line not doing justice to the intensity and competitiveness brought by our Tralee rivals.

Some good point taking saw us clear at the end. We now qualify for the final – date and opponent to be confirmed

Final Score: John Mitchel’s 5-19 – Na Gaeil 3-6

Next week sees both teams in action in Round 1 of the County League, both games away to Laune Rangers. Training continues Wednesday @7pm and Friday @8pm – full attendance required.

Fixtures

Laune Rangers B vs John Mitchel’s B – Sunday May 27th, 5.30pm Killorglin

Laune Rangers A vs John Mitchel’s A – Sunday May 27th, 7pm Killorglin

UNDER 15 BOYS

The u 15 boys have a challenge game at home Monday 21st at 5.30pm v Ballymac and another on Friday at 5.30 against Listowel both home games, in preparation for the county league division 1 in two weeks’ time. Best wishes from all in the Club to the boys involved with Russell cup teams in the Green and Mounthawk this coming week.

UNDER 17 BOYS

Our u 17 boys are playing An Ghaeltacht at home Monday 21st in county league at 7.00pm. Please show your support.

SENIOR LADIES

Our Senior Ladies had their first Donal Curtain cup game against St Pats/ Churchill at home on Sunday 20th at 12.30pm on a glorious day with some wind throughout the game. John Mitchel’s opened up the scoring with a lovely point to get the scoreboard going. We had the wind to deal with in the first half which made scoring a little more difficult but by half time the score was level at 2-02 to 1-05.

The second half was a little easier with the help of the wind for John Mitchel’s. The backs had a great game keeping the scoring at bay for St Pats/Churchill. There was some lovely football being played by both teams. It was easier for Mitchel’s in the second half with the help of the wind behind our kickouts. Midfield were working well also.  The seniors are due to play Kerins O Rahilly in the next round of Donal Curtin cup on April 10th time tbc. More details as soon as they are available.

SENIOR MEN

Our seniors have their first county league match of 2022 with an away trip to Kilcummin this Sunday March 27th at 11.30am. All support greatly appreciated.
