We had a great morning training in glorious sunshine Sunday.  The boys and girls were fantastic and put in a huge effort practicing their football skills. We all had lots of fun and the coaches finally got to grips with duck duck goose!  Special thanks to one of our minors, Darragh O’Callaghan for helping out.
We train again on Sunday at 11 in our Ballyseedy complex and as ever we welcome new members to attend.

Another great attendance on a beautiful spring morning the girls went about their drills brilliantly. They completed hand pass, kicking and tackling drills very well showing the coaches yet more improvement.

A special word of well done to Brook, Peggy, Suin, Aideen, Amy and Aine, Orlaith and Nancy catching the eye. All girls again showing very good effort and impressing the coaches. Training next Sunday at 11 in Ballyseedy new members always welcome.

Helped by the good weather, we had great numbers on Wednesday and Sunday morning. Training again on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

It is important that as many people attend because we have matches coming up on Sunday morning and the following Wednesday. Great progress can be seen at training. Well done to all.

With a bye this weekend in the County League, there was no competitive fixture. However,  with Laune Rangers B also having a bye the clubs agreed to hold a challenge match in Ballyseedy on Monday night.

This game is to provide much needed game time to the girls before their next County League game against Listowel Emmets next weekend. The team had a very competitive training session on Tuesday night.

We were delighted to welcome Tara, Rihanna, Katelyn and Ella to the team and they will definitely add to the competitive nature of the team going forward.

Tuesday evening saw the opening game in Div 5 County League for Mitchel’s u16 ladies away to Spa Killarney. Both sides have a really good account of themselves on the night.

The teams were separated by just 2 points at the break, but after a really strong second half by Mitchel’s, they ended the game deserved winners by a margin of 6 points.

Final score in Spa,

Spa Killarney 2-01

J Mitchel’s 2-07

Well done to all involved in a very entertaining match. Next game this coming Tuesday sees Mitchel’s  on the road again, away to Finuge. Match to be played in St.Sennans, Mountcoal with  throw-in @ 6.45pm. Good luck to all.

John Mitchel’s U9 Boys enjoyed a fantastic sun filled training session on Sunday last on our main pitch. Our coaches started them off with a warm up quickly followed by some ball drills. After that it was straight into 2 highly contested games. It’s always fantastic to see the improvements each week with all our players but always remember to keep on practicing at home during the week!! John Mitchel’s Sunday Morning Juvenile Academy continues every Sunday Morning from 11.00am. All new players welcome.

We had a great turnout on Sunday morning in Ballyseedy . On a very warm morning we worked on kick passing, tackling and point taking. We followed this up with 2 cracking games. We play Ballymac this Thursday night in Ballyseedy at 6.30 pm. Please meet at 6pm.

The County League commenced this Sunday evening and what better way to start it than against our old rivals Laune Rangers in Killorglin on a glorious Spring evening. Conditions were perfect and the teams didn’t disappoint playing some great football. Our Bs were first up and were unfortunately down a few due to illness.

We lined out as quiet a young and inexperienced side but you wouldn’t have thought this in the way we played. A great battle ensued over the 50 minutes in a game that seesawed from side to side. We eventually lost out by three points but great credit to our lads who never gave up and could well have pulled an equaliser out of the bag at the end.

Laune Rangers B 5-9

John Mitchel’s B 3-12

Our As knew they would need to step up and based on previous battles it was going to be a tough evening. Starting well we put up some nice points to settle us but the men from the Laune responded well and were finding gaps in our back line. At the other end a great turnover led to our first goal and had us up by 4 at half time.

The 2nd half ebbed and flowed again, with our lads giving away possession a little too easily but we were lucky not to be punished. The game was in the balance with our lead still only 3 with about 10 minutes left but it was that point our lads but the peddle to the metal to pull away in style at the end, albeit the score line being a little flattering for the tightness of the game.

Laune Rangers A 1-7

John Mitchel’s A 3-13

Training continues this Wednesday at 7pm, Friday time TBC.
John Mitchel’s B v Spa Killarney B @Ballyseedy, 5.30pm April 3rd
John Mitchel’s A v Spa Killarney A @Ballyseedy, 7pm April 3rd

On Wednesday last we played a challenge game v Ballmac with Ballymac proving to be a bit too strong for us. We learnt a lot from the game and will use it going forward. This Tuesday sees the start of co league div1 with us away to Legion on Tuesday evening @7pm. We will meet in legion for 6-30pm and full attendance is required we will need to be at our best on the night

We played an Gaelthacht at home Monday night in the county league . We were down a player after 25mins and fantastic 2nd half team performance saw us win out by 4pints on a score of 6 06 to
4 08 .our next game is away to Milltown. We are both equal on points so top of the table clash would make for an entertaining and competitive game.

The seniors are due to play Kerins O Rahilly in the next round of Donal Curtin cup on April 10th time tbc. More details as soon as they are available.

We played Kilcummin in round 1 of the county league on Sunday morning played in glorious conditions in Kilcummin Gaa grounds.

We started brightly with points from Alan O Donoghue but Kilcummin dragged themselves back and went ahead 5-3 midway first half. We added scores through Shane O Connor and Alan o Donoghue to draw level entering final 5 mins of half. Kilcummin added 2 45s in this spell to lead 9-6 at the break

We came out of the traps fast in second half and added scores from Alan O Donoghue and James Duggan to draw level after 5 mins of second half.

Kilcummin ran through for a goal after this and added scores to run 6 points ahead midway second half. We tried valiantly till the end but Kilcummin ran out deserving winners on a score line of 1-17 0-12. We play Glenbeigh at home next Saturday April 2nd at 6pm. Please show your support.

Our Juniors had their first game at home on Saturday 6pm in the senior development league Division 2A where they faced Ballymac. Great football was played by both sides on a fabulous afternoon. Unfortunately, Ballymac finished the stronger team with the final score line of Ballymac 2-10 John Mitchel’s 2-06. Details of next round to follow. Please show your support.
